Kate Hynes has an interdisciplinary practice which encompasses painting, drawing, performance and animation. Fluidity and movement are very important, moving between the unspecific and the specific. Imperfection and spontaneity taking priority. Hynes’ practice exists at the meeting point of various contradictions; water and oil, material and digital, motherhood and modernity. She attempts to explore these topics with levity. Hynes is drawn to mediums such as oils, watercolours and ink because of their movement between liberality and refinement. 

Brekkie is an oil painting of an everyday moment, a work hoping to capture the magnitude of the mundane. It is a winter morning, eating breakfast in the kitchen. Cold and dark outside, warm and bright inside. Let not a moment of beauty go to waste.
