Rania Atef is a visual artist and cultural practitioner based in Cairo. Her work explores the notion of play across a wide range of mediums. She focuses on different forms of labor, care, domesticity, authority, and their intersectional trajectories within social and artistic contexts. She has specific interest in the notions of togetherness, collectivity and sharing resources.
The While being an Octopus project explores the role of women through the lens of "balance"—a concept especially relevant to women in general and mothers in particular. It builds upon the artist’s ongoing research into maternal and reproductive experiences, with a specific emphasis on the social dimensions of motherhood and the ways women navigate multiple roles including caregiving, emotional labor, child-rearing, managing daily family routines, and balancing professional responsibilities and social expectations.
